Mommy & Me: Workout Edition

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

fitnessNew and experienced moms are well versed in the challenges of reclaiming pre-baby bodies. (Hmm…so I didn’t have 30-pound baby – now what???). This pressure can feel particularly intense in Miami where clothing is minimal and bodies tend to be rock-solid (damn models are everywhere). Luckily, options mommy & me fitness options abound…

  • Baby Boot Camp brings babies, strollers & moms to Flamingo Park (Miami Beach) and Village Green (Key Biscayne) five mornings a week to build muscle, work up a sweat and tone. Classes are outside (be warned), 75-minutes long and available in Level 1 & 2 options. Prices are moderate (first class is free), the crowd varies and the workout ranges from good to great, depending on your fitness level.
  • Baby and Me Yoga takes a decidedly more relaxed approach to fitness with 60 minutes of postures, breath work, stretching and meditation. Babies one-month to one-year are welcome. Don’t expect to burn 1000 calories over night, but it’s a fun bonding experience.
  • Founded by a local personal trainer and fitness instructor, Fitness 4 Families brings mommy & baby fitness classes to Pinecrest. Stroller fitness is 60-minutes of cardio exercises, stretching & strength building with strollers. Designed for all fitness levels, which means beginners will love it and experienced exercisers might be a bit bored.
  • Forget free towels, childcare is now our favorite gym amenity. Get a real workout (we recommend a personal trainer if you can spring for it), work your butt off & never stray more than a few feet from your baby. Local gyms with childcare: Equinox Coral Gables & Aventura. Know of more? Comment below.
