Mommy & Me classes are a great way to meet fellow moms, interact with your kids, begin childhood socialization and get out of the house. Options abound in Miami – here are some of our favorites. Most fall sessions begin in late August or early Sept.
- Jewish and non-Jewish mommies gather at Miami Beach’s Temple Beth Sholom for its Parent/Child classes. Classes begin at 2 months and go through 3 years. Emphasis is on mommy interaction and progressive childhood development (the final class preps kids for preschool independence). Options include basic mommy & me (lap babies, crawlers, etc), music and gymnastics. All classes are non-denominational. Temple Beth Sholom: 4144 Chase Ave, Miami Beach; 305-538-7231
- Free and open to the public, Beth Am’s Tot Shabbat is billed as a weekly “celebration of Shabbat.” Bring kids 7 months to 2 years to the Kendall temple every Friday from 9-10am for music, arts, playtime, stories and a snack. Expect mixed ages, light structure and a different crowd each week. For a more structured option, consider the more traditional Mommy & Me-style Toddler Time program. Or wrangle grandmas into the new weekly Grandma & Me class Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30am. Appropriate for kids 7-24 months. Temple Beth Am: 5950 N Kendall Drive, Pinecrest; 305-667-6667
- Gymboree’s Play & Learn classes run from 0-36 months. All classes encourage age-appropriate development, with early ones focusing more on parent discussion & bonding. Later classes feature problem solving games and language development skills. Gym is clean, instructors are friendly and classes are manageably sized. Gymboree: 11845 S Dixie Hwy, Miami, 305-232-3399
