Temps have dropped & the calendar is kicking – it’s looking like a festive weekend!
- Children’s Alley at the Miami Book Fair is our top pick this weekend. From 9am-6pm Friday through Sunday hit the fair within the fair for storytelling, readings, puppet shows, kid’s plays, Dr. Seuss exhibits and more – it’s a readers dream. Check miamibookfair.com for details and schedules and set aside 1-2 hours for browsing and buying.
- Looking for more book action? Bring princesses in their holiday best to Borders Aventura Saturday from 11am to noon for a Fancy Nancy fest. Expect a splendiferous storytime, crafts and other activities. Call 305-935-0027 for info. While you’re in the neighborhood head to Aventura Mall for Catimini’s first anniversary celebration. The kids clothing store is partnering with the Miami Children’s Museum on a reading of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are from 2-4pm.
- Sunday morning greet cooler temps with a morning outdoors – venture to Metrozoo for the 5k Miracle Walk/Run promoting organ donation from 8am-noon. Registration ranges from $20-$35 and includes breakfast, lunch, music and entrance to the zoo. Properly exercised, continue your journey south for a visit to the Fruit and Spice Park’s first Great Green Family Festival. From 10am-5pm enjoy a local farmers market (we’re thinking lunch), live music, kids activities, chair massage and more. Admission is $6, click here for details.
- Alternately, spend Sunday at the Miami Children’s Museum. From 11am-2pm amateur & established artists will enjoy a children’s screening of films from the Miami Short Film Festival. Head to the playground for an hour then bring your budding ballerinas to the museum’s Nutcracker Sweets Party from 3-5pm. Kids can take pictures with dancers, decorate cupcakes, get their faces painted and more. Party is $50 per adult, $25 per child, call 305-929-7000 x1443 for details.
