Week two of December and the calendar is packed…

  • Shop Smartly. Chanukah starts Saturday, Christmas is weeks away – time to rev up the shopping engines. Avoid confusion and mall chaos with our baby, toddler and mommy-to-be gift guides. We’ve sorted through tons of toys, crafts, games and activities and highlighted our favorites – everything from old classics (Mr. Potato Head anyone?) to new favorites (pedal-less bikes). Happy shopping.
  • Get Picture Perfect. Holiday card season is upon us – get snap happy with your munchkins this week. Bring them to your favorite indoor or outdoor spot (the living room counts), dress them in their holiday finest (we love a Miami twist – red & green bathing suits, dreidels in the pool) and snap away. Click here for a few tips on taking great toddler photos (hint: the fun is in the chaos) then head Snapfish, Shutterfly or Tiny Prints to upload and order away.
  • Get Crafty. Wednesday is all about the art. Head to Anthropologie on Lincoln Road at 3pm for card crafting, ornament making, cookie decorating, story time and an hour of guilt-free shopping. Then venture north to Studio Kids for its regular kids club featuring movies, arts and crafts and face painting.
  • Holiday Hunt. Friday is holiday prep day. Head to Brickell’s Kids Learning Adventure for a holiday school bazaar from 9am-4pm to shop kids clothes, jewelry, stationary and a bake sale. Come sunset, head to the Arsht Center for a holiday concert with Sweet Honey in the Rock, a female vocal ensemble blending gospel, blues, reggae and rap.
  • Weekend plan. No surprise here – it’s another holiday heavy weekend in South Florida as Chanukah begins (Saturday) and the countdown to Christmas continues. Head to the Deering Estate for Santa story time and crafts or venture to Books & Books Coral Gables for a Hanukkah special with Eric Kimmel. Bring budding chefs to Whole Foods Coral Gables for a kids cooking demo with Maggie Jimenez or treat the whole family to a free Second Saturday at the Miami Art Museum.
