Weekly Picks: Dec 28 – Jan 1

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Another blissful week – or few days – in vacation mode. Celebrate by catching a show, starting a new tradition and ringing in 2010 with a bang.

  • Seek out Santa. Santa may have come and gone, but his reindeer – and games – linger at Santa’s Enchanted Forest. Bring the munchkins to Tropical Park from 5pm to midnight (we suggest going early for lightest crowds) for over 100 rides, a petting zoo, pony rides and a 92-foot Christmas tree.
  • Go to the Dogs. Plan a family outing to the Arsht Center as 101 Dalmatians takes the stage from Dec 30 – January 3. The show is equal parts Broadway dramatics, animal antics and inevitable laughs as 15 live dogs are on stage. Matinees and evening performances are available.
  • New Years’ Eve. Ring in 2010 family-style at one of several locations around town. Start the fun early at Miami Children’s Museum’s Noon Years Eve from 10am-2pm (think countdown, games and a balloon drop) or wait for the main event at Bayfront Park (fireworks and a concert in the heart of Downtown Miami) or Miami Beach (fireworks and live music oceanside in South Beach).
  • Become a Book Worm. Grab your munchkin, snuggle into your favorite chair and get a jump start on New Year’s resolutions by digging into a new book. Rediscover an old classic (Pat the Bunny, Goodnight Moon) or find a new favorite (Gallop, Bears on Chairs) and make 2010 the year of reading in your house. Looking for an adventure? Head to your local library or favorite book store for story time and inspiration.
