Weekly Picks: Jan 25-29

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Happy Monday morning. Lots going on as we wind down January…

  • Be a Beach Baby. Sunny skies and 70s – perfect beach week. We’re thinking a day on Key Biscayne. Start with a swinging and sliding session at Village Green, grab a quick lunch at Sir Pizza then head to Crandon Beach for wading or water frolicking. Interested in lingering? Hit the tennis center or rent bikes for a ride around the island.
  • Get Bookish. It’s the last week of January, time to renew those resolutions. Tops on our list – reading. Stop by story time at your local library, join the Pottery Barn Kids book club or head to Books & Books for weekly story time. While you’re there check out some of our favorites – Ten Frogs, Bears on Chairs & ABC in Miami & the Beaches.
  • Celebrate Chocolate. Wednesday is national Chocolate Cake Day, our new favorite holiday. Celebrate by hitting the kitchen with the munchkins. Practice hand eye coordination (pouring & stirring), math (measuring and counting) and general merriment. We’re thinking chocolate lava cake, chocolate mud cake or double chocolate pudding cake.
  • Lunch with the Ladies. Book a sitter this week and do double time over lunch at the Palms spa. Enjoy 25% off any treatment between noon and 3pm (we’re thinking a fusuion stone massage, aqua salt glow or chakra balancing manicure) then stay for 25% off lunch at Essensia.
  • Weekend Plan: Spend the weekend outside. Head south to the Homestead Rodeo, cheer on participants in the Miami Marathon or get artsy at Deering Estate’s ArtSoBay Festival. Alternately follow the yellow brick road to the Miami Children’s Museum brand new Wizard of Oz exhibit, on site through early May
