Weekend Picks: Feb 5-7

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Weekend fun arrives in droves today – along with loads of football-loving tourists…

  • Friday get geek chic with a visit to Fabulous First Friday at the Miami Science Museum. From 7-10pm enjoy interactive science lectures, hands-on kids activities and a planetarium star show. Alternately, book a sitter and head to the Gables for dinner al fresco courtesy of Giralda Under the Stars and artist mingling at the monthly gallery night.
  • Saturday morning start the family on a farm-to-table kick with a visit to your favorite farmers market (we’re partial to the Coral Gables and Coconut Grove markets). Pick up produce for the week & indulge in fresh-baked pastries and smoothies for an on-the-spot breakfast. Or, head to Deering Estate for EcoArt Book Nook by the Bay. From 10am to noon participate in butterfly-themed eco-arts and crafts, science programs and story time.
  • Sunday, explore plant life, wide-open spaces, arts, crafts and more at Fairchild Tropical Gardens’ monthly Family Funday. Arrive between noon and 4pm and enjoy free admission and mingling with loads of neighborhood families. Make sure to catch a tram ride and check out the butterflies.
  • Sunday evening is all about the big game – or its commercials. Make Super Bowl XLIV a family affair with kid-friendly snacks (baked nuggets, veggie sticks & dip, etc) and interactive games.
