Weekend Picks: Feb 26-28

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Food & festivities abound this weekend as chilly temps return…

  • Bring the family to Little Havana Friday night from 6:30-11pm for an international exploration courtesy of Calle Ocho’s monthly Viernes Culturales. Munchkins and their parents will enjoy live music, outdoor art exhibits, tasty bites and Spanish aplenty.
  • Saturday is Wine & Food Festival day. Make it a family affair at Jungle Island from 10am-5pm for Fun & Fit as a Family. The mini-festival features interactive cooking demos with Rachael Ray, Paula Deen and other celeb chefs, games and tastings. Alternately, book a sitter and go the adult route at the Festival’s Grand Tasting Village along Ocean Drive. Gluttony abounds as over 50 restaurants and vineyards wine & dine guests. Warning – wear comfortable shoes, leave the kids at home & plan for a nap afterwards.
  • Sunday is all about athletics. Time to work off those wine & food fest calories. Kick off the morning with family yoga in Midtown at 10am. The 45-minute class blends English, Spanish, stretching, breathwork and plenty of laughter. $20 for a family of four, click here for info. Next, head to the AA Arena for a visit with the Harlem Globetrotters. Budding, experienced and retired athletes will be impressed by the traveling team’s acrobatics. Tix start at $18, click here or call 800-745-3000.
