It’s looking like another sunny South Florida week – time to make music, celebrate Seuss and more…
- Find a New Beat. Music is a great way to introduce new cultures, boost memory, improve focus and just spice up a morning. Make your own beats with this wooden percussion set or this animal-inspired instrument collection or spice up your iPod or CD player with C’mon, Rise & Shine or Juno Baby. Have another favorite? Send us an email with your recs.
- Get Seussical. Tuesday marks Dr. Seuss’s 106 birthday. Start the day off with a homemade plate of green eggs & ham then curl up with your favorite Seuss classics (we’re partial to Hop on Pop and Go Do Go). Channel that inspiration into creating your own Dr. Seuss collage. Gather glue, toilet paper rolls, pipe cleaners, felt, ribbon & anything else you’ve got laying around, cover your munchkin in a smock and let him go to town. Close out the day with a visit to the Miami Children’s Museum from 3 to 7pm for a birthday celebration stocked with performances, games and cupcakes.
- Train for Thomas. Thomas the Tank Engine rolls into town Saturday for an action-packed two days of storytelling, videos, games and crafts at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum. Get a jump-start on the fun with a weeklong crash course in all things Thomas and trains. Munchkins will love getting to know the 65-year-old character while parents will love watching their little ones see it all come to life over the weekend.
- Weekend Plan. Action abounds this weekend as the Miami International Film Festival, the Asian Cultural Festival, the Bluegrass Festival and Carnaval on the Mile all roll into town. Also on the books? School House Rock at the Coral Gables Youth Center, Family Fest at the Arsht Center and a Health & Fitness Expo at Sunset Place.
