Weekend Picks: June 4-6

Friday, June 4th, 2010

TGIF! We love a short week – time to celebrate with three days of sugar, story time and shopping…

  • It’s Friday – free donuts all around! Celebrate National Donut Day with a free donut at Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts (beverage purchase required at DD). Properly hopped up on sugar and caffeine, head to the Gables for its monthly gallery night. Browse, mingle and interact with artists before heading to dinner.
  • Saturday is Grove Day. The iconic Magic City neighborhood celebrates its Bahamian roots with an authentic straw market, crafts, food, music and clothing imported from the Bahamas. Little & big ones will enjoy live music, a fashion show and ticket giveaways to the new Paragon Grove 13 movie theater. Alternately, go prehistoric at Miami Children’s Museum with the debut of Dino Island. The grand opening celebration runs from 10am-5pm and features games and crafts. The exhibit will be on display through Jan 2011.
  • Sunday morning recoup some lost “me” time while the hubby hangs with the munchkins (we can dream, right?). Then head to Bal Harbour at 12:30 for some prime literary bonding during Miami Munchkin’s monthly storytime at Books & Books. We’re reading Mama, Is It Summer Yet?, crafting and enjoying a bonus giveaway. Grab a late lunch or snack at Santa Fe Café then wander around for some window shopping.
