Weekly Picks: June 7-11

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Happy Monday! Was great to see lots of you at yesterday’s MM storytime – more fun to come in July. In the meantime, lots to do this week…

  • Embrace the AC. Could it be any hotter outside? Seek solace in sweet, sweet air conditioning this week. Head to your local library for story time & book browsing; linger over lunch and supervised playtime at South Miami’s Cool-de-Sac or North Miami’s Café Bambini or window show and wander around Aventura or Dadeland malls (a little food court never hurt anyone).
  • Get Ducky. This Wednesday Donald Duck rings in another year. We’re celebrating the third most popular cartoon character of all time (behind Bugs Bunny & Mickey Mouse) with loads of crafts, activities & cake (gotta love birthdays!). Grab some bread and feed your local ducks, stage a rubber ducky race in your bathtub (or kitchen sink), teach your munchkins Duck, Duck, Goose! or create a Donald collage (think coloring pages, stickers, feathers and blue markers).
  • Eat Out. Today kicks off the third annual Coral Gables Restaurant Week, which means two weeks of discounted three-course meals at 30+ restaurants – and dozens of excuses not cook. Prices vary by location, but most lunches range between $10-$25 and dinners $25-$40. Bring the kids to Bangkok Bangkok, Benihana or Spris then book a date night at Caffe Abracci, Ortanique, Ruths Chris or Talavera. The fun continues through June 20 – we’re thinking at least two play date lunches.
  • Weekend Plan. Keep your fingers crossed for bearable temperatures then sing along with George Aldrich at Pottery Barn Kids, join a Toy Story 3 scavenger hunt, get crafty in the kitchen with super duper mini chefs, get a haircut for charity or celebrate dad at Books & Books.
