She and her team (Anita is her number two) offer pre-baby classes; in hospital, office & home visits; support groups and more. Faith is extremely passionate about breastfeeding & dedicated to the cause. 305-446-BABY.

Pediatricians

Baptist Health Physician Referral (Various Locations)

Not sure exactly what you’re looking for? Call Baptist’s physician referral service and get several recommendations for the doctor of your choice based on location & specifications (gender, specialty, etc). 786-596-6557 or 800-228-6557.

Beachside Pediatrics  (Bay Harbor)

Visiting Drs. Robin Strauss and/or Sandy Lieberman is a bit like going to see your Jewish mom as a pediatrician. They’re both extremely friendly, chatty (Robin much more so than Sandy) and very reassuring. Very few things are an emergency and they can generally always squeeze in a sick child. Extra bonus for working parents – first appointment of the day is at 8:30am. 1145 Kane Concourse, 305-865-5439.

Pediatric Associates/Dr. Susan Leitner (Miami Beach)

Dr. Leitner is the most popular practitioner of the burgeoning Pediatric Associates chain (21 locations in South Florida). Friendly and approachable, Leitner is well know as a strong (occasionally intimidatingly so) breastfeeding supporter. The office is open 8am-5pm Mon-Fri for sick & well care and 6-9pm Mon-Thurs for sick care. 4308 Alton Road, 305-532-3378.

Miami Beach Pediatrics/Dr. Bruce Eisenberg (Miami Beach)

Miami Beach’s most famed holistic pediatrician, Dr. Eisenberg has crafted a niche among Mid-Beach residents. Eisenberg trained in and practiced traditional pediatric medicine for years, then decided to pursue a devleoping interest in homeopathy. He now blends the two at his busy office. Typically parents are offered traditional (antibiotics, medicines, etc) and homeopathic (dietary changes, herbal treatments, etc) approaches to child’s ailments. Warning – Eisenberg never rushes patients, so you’ll get lots of face time. But you’ll also get lots of waiting room time. 524 41 Street, 305-672-7337, miamibeachpediatrics.com.

Therapists

Nora Farinas, Massage Therapist

noraNora Farinas, a licensed massage therapist for over 15 years, specializes in pre and post natal massage therapy promoting the health and well-being of mom and baby. The founder and former owner of Massage By Design now works out of her Coral Gables studio as well as private homes. Call 768-586-4573 for info and appointments.

Midwives

A Loving Start (Miami Beach)

Mary Harris, LM and CPM, works out of your home or a birthing center in Broward. Sweet and endless supportive, she’s a highly recommended choice for moms to be looking for an alternative to the traditional OB-GYM route for labor and delivery. 975 41 St, Miami Beach; 305-215-8763

Baby Proofers/Car Seat

Safer Kids & Homes

Founder Patti Laird has created a mini South Florida baby-proofing empire. She first schedules a home safety audit (around $40), during which she walks parents through safety concerns & options room-by-room. Parents then receive a very detailed follow-up assessment listing every possible safety measure. Order directly from Safer Kids & Homes and they install or order online (from them or others) & do it yourself. We suggest a combination of the two – use SKH for the big items (securing major furniture to walls) and do the smaller things (covering outlets) yourself.

Miami Beach Police Department

The best (and only 1 of 2) car seat installers we’ve found in Miami or Miami Beach. Email officer Julio Blanco to set up an appt, meet him at the police station on 11 & Washington and you’ll leave 20-30 minutes later a happy parent. Blanco is thorough, meticulous and very determined to make your car seat as safe as possible.
